Fall Is Upon Us

Fall has come without summer

I can feel the change in the air

My body aches for the change in pace school will bring

I can't help but think of my old almamater now

Oh how I miss that life

Oh how I am ready to be done

Oh how I wish I was at home creating

Home in general

I want to embrace the fall

For before we know it

Winter will be upon us

I enjoy words, I enjoy letting them flow, I enjoy writing, always have.

What is something you enjoy doing?

I have enjoyed watching this blog unfold.....

You should check it out.....

Happy Tuesday!

Here's a little glimpse of what we have been up to this weekend...

running, sleep deprivation, hungry, stomach aches, whole body aches, van rides, exchanges, sleeping on the ground, paing, fancy watches, gatorade, food, traffic jams, speeding, honey buckets, sprined ankles, bad knees........
I am beyond exhausted.... 4 hours of sleep in 48 hours + 15 miles run + slight sunburn = Mindy isn't doing so hot right now...
Stay tuned for the details.... as for now I need to dream of Hunger Games and the race.

New or Old

This is a delimma I have been having over the last little while. I asked myself the following question today and nearly had a panic attack.

Which would you rather have, an old home with tons of personality and chance to make it all my own, or a new home with all of the upgrades I would like?

So now I pose the question to you... when purchasing a home, do you see yourslef in

or this?

Something to consider... lots of work for what I want, or no work and adjusting to someone elses' perfect?

What's your take on this? What is your next home in your mind like?

Double Date

First of all I need to appologize for not posting any pictures of Sarah and Tysons wedding reception... I TOTALLY forgot my camera! It was beautiful and the food was even better! There you go, your report.

Shane's back has been killing him so he wanted to go to the hotsprings and soak it out. We borrowed the pass from his parents and took an impromptu trip up to Banff with the Hirtles for a dip in the hot springs

(2 dozen chocolate chip cookies go to the person who can find us... 3 dozen to the person who can find the Hirtles AND us).

It was busy!

It was wonderful!

It was cheap!

It was SO MUCH FUN!!!!

Having that pass from his parents got us into the park for free and being an AMA member got us into the hotsprings for $6.30 a person. Can't beat that! It was fun to chat in the car and dare each other to kiss in the pool... We all decided we will have to do it again soon, next time we will stay the night in a hotel.... Late night + hot water = sleepyheads in the car on the way home at 11PM. Double dates are great!!!

Dirty Rotten Thieves

Our car was broken into last night... they took the faceplate to our stereo and rummuged through our glove box. I feel beyond violated!!!!!! I'm just a bit nervous for tonight since the faceplate only works with the stereo and hope and pray they don't come for that next... Maybe I will take turns with Shane staying up tonight and we can catch the dirty bandits and call the cops! Dang this sucks!

Letter to BC

I would have never thought that I would be saying this seens how the summer here in Calgary has been, but I am grateful for the rain this morning and hoping that it will start up again and pour for the morning hours. Think I'm crazy yet? Hear me out....

Ever since this smoke from BC has lingered its way into Alberta my head has been SO congested... lots of pressure, endless runny nose, and sore/itchy throat. It's the WORST in the morning... I've polished off a hot chocolate and am diving into a peppermint tea to try to clear things out. This is what I have to say...

Dear BC, please keep the smoke from your fires in your own province. You have had a beautiful, WARM summer, and we have had an ugly, cold one... Therefore you should have to suffer with your own smoke, and not make the end of summer here in Alberta terrible as the sun has just decided it wants to shine on a regular basis here.

Lots of love,

I'm sure if you live in AB you can realte to how icky this looks and feels. It's WAY worse than a Utah inversion... sans the dead lake smell... That is the one thing we have, however we get a wiff of fire and smoke...

P.S... I Survived 8k yesterday :) Praying no shin splints appear and that my legs will decide they will cooperate for the near 14 miles I will do next weekend.

P.P.S... I'm hoping for the new Mr. and Mrs. Merrill the storm goes away this afternoon and their reception tonight is PERFECT for them, they deserve it! Pictures to come on that tomorrow.

happy friday everyone!!!!

Back To The Present

So enough about reminiscing about the Holidays, there is still 98 days to American Thanksgiving (my official OK to start playing holiday music and decorating) the day after of coarse, and 127 days to Christmas (no, I do not have a countdown, I DID have to count). Reality came and gave me a big slap in the face yesterday. I don't know whether it was the weather finally feeling like summer (big 29c on the record 84.2f and 32c on the car thermometer 89.6f) marked the hottest day of the year thus far here in Calgary... the leaves have started changing... all of it is pathetic if you ask me, but lets not get off on that tangent. It could have been the trip to the bank, or the conversation with Shane, I guess time will only tell.

Do you ever feel like this?

That you have a To Do list a MILE long?! I feel like this today... Here are a few things on the brain:(School, homesick, flowers, Scentsy, leaving my job, HTC, yoga, Zumba, plans with friends, Sabrina's mission, finances, buying a house, Lily, Shane) just to name a few that I could write a full page essay on the details of each. I'll pass, school doesn't start for 24 days phew

I think focusing on the good is my best option to get through the next few STRESSFUL weeks. Did you catch a bit of exciting news that I announced on what's on my brain?

SABRINA IS GOING ON A MISSION!!!!!!!!! We should know where she is going in the next couple of weeks.

Not to belittle Sabrina's exciting news.... We are pre-approved for a mortgage as of today!!!!!!! Oh wow, panic or be excited? Not sure yet... looking for a house, moving, being SUPER poor for a couple months until we get back on our feet.... Paying over double for an old, less than 1000 sq ft home vs a brand new 3 bedroom home in Utah... I'm not ready yet... I will let you know what we decide to do.

Sorry for the semi-downer post... pray for me ok?

Magazines and the Holidays

Ok, so I've become obsessed!!!!! Possibly beyond obsessed, but have learned that I am a creative person as well as a visual learner, so by pouring over pages and pages of beautiful things and creative ideas, I benefit and some of you do as well.

So in line with my title, I am going to jump into the holiday part... I LOVE the holidays! It is when Shane and I fell in love, it is celebrating Christ, family gets together, friends get together, parties are on the weekly agenda, the world gets kinder, our bank accounts get smaller, we are happy to have the snow and cold, because after all, it's Christmas time... So therefore loving the holidays and loving magazines, I ordered A Holiday With Matthew Mead. I am so thrilled for it to come, honestly October can't come fast enough! This will be my first year that I pour over the pages of it... One of the great parts is (this is for my Canadian friends) it costs the same whether it ships in the US or Canada (that NEVER happens).

What?! You have never heard of A Holiday With matthew Mead? Well click here and order your copy since it is ONLY available online, whip over there an make sure your copy comes when mine does in October.... from the sounds of things, it's TOTALLY going to be worth your time (and money)! Make sure to watch the video on the blog!

Happy almost Holidays!

A Few Shots of Our Place

I figured since I have been pouring over pages and pages of text on organization, and interior design, that I ought to post a bit of what our cute little place looks like. This is just the living room/entry way (it is all the same space).
I know it's not much, but it's a rental and I have had to realize that it is a temporary space. Shane and I have come to the realization that we are going to be grown ups soon... like real grown ups with a mortgage! We plan to meet with the bank prior to leaving for HTC. Crazy business, it makes my heart sad that we will be leaving this place shortly after all that we have put into it to make it our home.
Living room wall... I had to be bold and have red, this small house would be too boring without it.

Our couch and view of the tv stand, etc... very functional

This may just be my favourite part of our house. I LOVE this little closet with no door, lots of shoes, coats, and our games/ recreational things. Don't mind our reusable bags that make this look super cluttered under the coats.

There you are, your first look into our space... more to come as the week goes on, I'm feeling a whole home tour! Stay tuned.

I Do Enjoy

I do enjoy expressing my earthly talents...

My flower creations from this weekend

I enjoy Lily being herself and back into everything.

I also enjoy making lists and planning things out, so here it goes since I'm sure you're all DYING to know what the Gallups are/have been up to...

In reflection of this weekend...

  • We attempted to work on the blog... it was late... this week sometime it will be pretty again.
  • The flower market was AMAZING this weekend!!!!  Best I've seen since I can remember.
  • Bought the supplies to make an amazing fall wreathe
  • Lily went in for surgery... she did not like being there one bit... I went to pick her up alone (BAD idea), nearly passed out when I got to her and she looked dead from the sedation, called Shane and bawled my eyes out to him while I held her on my lap driving home.  It was terrible!
  • We had the Hirtles over for dinner and wii
  • I organized my new fall scents for Scentsy.... They are amazing!!!!!! (you ought to consider having a party after Sept 1)
  • Had a wonderful church meeting
  • Had a great Sunday nap
  • Did some secretarial duties for Relief Society

In looking forward over the next 2 weeks

  • I have found some serious inspiration from this and will be tackling our back room to make into an organized, functioning office for me since school and Scentsy holiday sales are just around the corner.
  • I plan to subscribe to both Martha Stewart Living and Better Homes and Gardens
  • Getting my butt in gear for...
  • Hood To Coast... Thursday I was asked to fill a spot...  go here to learn more on this race
  • Pass/send out tons of Scensty spring/summer catalogues (10% off this month on EVERYTHING)!
  • Order Scentsy fall catalogues

I think that's enough...  I marvel at the strength and energy I have been blessed with.  I think of myself last year at this time, I have done a complete 180.

I am grateful for my Heavenly Father, His mercy and grace

I am grateful for modern medicine

I am grateful for wonderful people

and an even more wonderful husband

I am a very blessed girl...

Take a minute and think about your life...

You probably are too!

Soft Paws and Surgery

Aren't those paws the cutest things you've ever seen?
Lily is very much a cat... she has all of the behaviors of a cat, and has claws like a cat. I am grateful to a co-worker I have who taught me and encouraged that I read about cat behavior to better understand Lily. I did and it's amazing how much better I understand her and why acts the wat she does, and what triggers it. Shane and I have had some minor battle wounds as a result of Lily being uncomfortable, or excited. When we decided to get a cat Shane didn't want to spend a penny. We decided we would get a female so her going into heat wouldn't result in our house smelling terribly. Since her claws and our leather couch, and skin have not gotten along we talked about getting her declawed. I scheduled the spay and declawing surgeries for the same day, and have been unsettled on it ever since. I just couldn't come to terms with what most people call inhumaine surgery of removing her claws. I read online and found out that it is terribly painful, takes off the last joint of her fingers, and often can change their behavior. I LOVE my Lily and just can't do that to her.

When I was cleaning the yoga studio on Monday, my friend Jen asked if I had ever heard of soft paws. She used to work in a vets office and said that they come in all different colours and are a perfect solution. I hadn't heard of them and didn't think much about it until today while I was reading about declawing. That was it, my determining factor, she will eternally have her claws. I wouldn't want the last joint of my finger removed because I had fingernails, rather I will make her fingernails a pretty colour, like I do mine and let her play with her red velvet mouse, try to catch bugs through the window, and anything else she wants to do with her claws. Shane thinks the soft paws look rediculous. I absolutely love them and think they are so perfect in every way. She may or may not come home from getting spayed on Saturday with RED nails.

Marvelous Monday

We are home, I am exhausted, fortunately we don't have piles and piles of laundry to do. Yesterday was one of the best Monday's I've had in a long long time.
The good started rolling around 11:30AM when I checked my phone and found a message from Jamie saying:
"Hey guess what? I got the job! I start Thursday."
Now I need to give you a little background on why this is so exciting. Jamie is from Utah and has been working on her immigration to Canada for the last year. Shane and I are great friends with her and her husband Aden who we met when we moved into our new ward the beginning of this year. Having gone through Canadian immigration, we rejoiced, and were sad with them through her immigration process since Jan. **you aren't able to work or go to school without a visa up here, so she hasn't been able to do anything but live here.** She got her residency at the beginning of this summer and has been looking for a job. We hadn't seen the Hirtles in about a month due to vacations, and were with the Hirtles on Sunday and talked about lots of things, including Jamie getting a job. That is why this message was so exciting, because she got the job she wanted!!!!!!!! Congratulations Jamie!

The next exciting news is that shortly after getting this text message, I got on facebook... only to discover that Brittany had her twins... 2 baby girls Sophie and Lillian, both over 5 pounds, and beautiful! How lucky are those girls to have Brittany and Josh as their parents, AND to have their birthday as 08-09-10. So appropriate for Brittany.

In other notes, I unpacked the majority of my stuff, Shane grocery shopped for us, the rain cleaned our bug covered corolla, and I had a good yoga class. Monday was a good day... now lets see how the rest of the week goes.

Utah Day 1

We made our arrival to my parents humble abode at approximately 8pm...  13.5 hours after leaving Calgary.  I was rather pleased with our time down.  Some of the highlights of the drive included Shane listening to the 5th disc on his book first by accident, dinner at Jack In The Box, having the power go out while I was in a bathroom at a gas station, sleeping away a lot of the drive, random breakfast stop at Tim Hortons, having a guard dog sniff our trunk at the border, etc.  It made for a fun time.

Yesterday was Sunday and we also had a Birthday party for Eliza who just turned 14.  I can't even believe it.  She was just a baby yesterday, I swear.  Anyways, here are some of the pictures of the day.

I finished off the night vising Jen Deuel (my Scentsy leader) and we had a lot of fun.  She is co-hosting the Scentsy party at my moms.  Come and meet her, she is one of the most hilarious people that I know.

I am trying to figure out Photobucket and how to make my pictures on here sweet... I'll figure it out sometime soon.

Also... happy 100th post
