Image

As I have literally watched my body transform, I have often thought about my self image.  You would think with the progress that I have made, that I would have a great self image.  Well... that isn't really the case.  I am very critical of myself.  Although the blisters fade,my baby will grow up, and time will continue on, what will become of me?  Will I always be this obsessive mother and wife?  Will my attitude forever be a direct reflection on what I have eaten or whether or not I have worked out?  Will I ever be enough, or will I just want more?  Will my boobs ever be the size I want?  My teeth ever be as straight as I want?  My clothes be as trendy as I would like, or fit just perfect?  Will I ever be confident enough in my decision to extended breastfeed?  Or how about my other parenting choices?  Will I ever feel like I am not stuch between 2 worlds?

I know the answer to all of these "wants" is easy.  Turn to the Savior and find peace in him.  It is my time to find HIS image in MY countenance.  Here's to a happier, less grouchy Mindy in August.

Monster Birthday Bash

When I was in Utah, I started falling IN LOVE with different party themes for Samuel. Originally I thought we'd go with a safari theme since Samuel used to growl, and has a bucket, or as my dad likes to call it "surfin safari" hat.  Well, that all changed when I came across some candied eyes and clearance monster plates on my trip.  I was sold, a monster bash it would be!

I spent hours the night before baking and working on my icing technique (I hadn't ever really used a frosting tip in MY LIFE)!  I was pleased with the outcome, but it was lots of work to get everything ready, including the house.

Samuel enjoyed helping with the unwrapping part

and liked the playing part as well

"What, for me?"

"What are these things?"

mmmmm

(grandma requested the necklace come off).  More investigating

"well, the frosting is yummy"

he then proceeded to pat his cake

still not sure even when mom breaks into it

"get this thing out of the way"

"fine, to the other side"

"whoops!"

"yum!"

so polite

I wanted to keep things simple, so it was just a family party.  Samuel shares his uncle Michaels Birthday, but unfortunately Michael was on a little trip to San Fran with his wife.  The totaly party count was Shanes parents, Shanes grandparents (moms side), one of Shanes cousins, and auntie Breanne came at the end.  It was a good way to celebrate this big first year for our family.

The party went off without a hitch, and Samuel and I took a nap after everyone left, while Shane went and picked up a load of dirt for our backyard.  It may be over a week since the party, but I'm not quite ready to take down the decorations... So fun!  Glad to celebrate, glad it's over :)

Samuel Turns 1

First of all, I can't believe that Mr. Samuel is alreay 1 year old! It is crazy to me how fast this year has gone and how far we have all come. I had known for a couple of months that I wanted to get Samuel a ride on bike for his Birthday. The boys I babysit for each have one and Samuel really enjoys playing on them. 2 days before the big day, we headed into Calgary as a family to shop for Samuel. We found some bikes/ trikes at Wal Mart, but they only had buttons, we wanted one with leavers and other things like that.  We stopped in at Once Upon A Child (a kids consignment store) and Shane liked the selection, but I wasn't too impressed.  We made our last stop to Toys R Us, and in utter frustration at the crap these big box stores are selling for ride ons, we made our way back to Once Upon A Child.  The great part about getting the bike there was we paid significantly less than what we had budgeted for, and were able to score him another gift we knew he'd love.  Here goes the Birthday unveil:

oooooooo

sweet

it's jam time

"look mom!"

"What's this?  It looks familiar..." (yes he tried it out in the store)

Sweet!

"cheese"

"I love it!"

a trunk?

What's this?

lame

and the dismount

more "stuff" to do

"What?!  It's a convertable?!"

Shane left for work after we snapped these pictures.  Both he and I are open your gifts as soon as your eyes are open people.  Samuel even spoiled us and slept through the night (which he hasn't done since).  I guess he was just making up for the NO sleep we got the year before that night.

Sam was lucky and had 2 eggs for breakfast (he LOVES eggs).  After his nap we went over to the Robertsons to watch the boys.  Dixie was so sweet and had a little party all set up for us (I will get the pictures from her and do a post on it).  We had a fun time there, and then came home for a quiet evening.

Happy 1st Birthday Samuel!

Polish

Thursday was a fun day for Samuel and I.  Ali had phoned me on Wednesday and asked if I could watch her girls while she took Jacob to parents day at the pool (which required her to get in the water).  I was delighted to have the opportunity, and gladly opened up my home to these sweeties.
Samuel and Sarah played so well for the first few minutes, and then it was time for a nap.  We were having family pictures that evening, so I was taking the polish off my fingers and toes to re-paint them.  Sarah quickly picked up on what I was doing and asked for polish on her nails.  I let her choose the colour... pink!  This is one of those things I really look forward to if we get to have a little girl.  She sat so still as I clipped her nails, removed the polish, painted her nails, and then blew them dry.  Here are the final results.

Fingers - pink

Toes - metallic purple

Her mom does project life, so little Sarah was well versed when I asked her to smile.  Here is her "cheese."

Finally, my time with Baby Millie (Amelia).  What a sweet heart!  She is only 2 weeks old in this picture.

I am one lucky girl.  I not only got to be Sarahs first baby sitter when she was a baby, but also Millies first sitter!  I will happily take these girls ANYTIME!

We love you Williamson family!!!!

Body For Life Challenge 1

There was a great inner debate about posting these pictures.  I found great motivation and encouragement from my friend posting her pictures.  They gave me hope, and that is what I want to give to those of you looking for it.  Shane and I have talked many times how this is a personal challenge is an investment and is something that has to be earned.  The purpose behind it was for myself, my health, and family.

Now, I personally am NOT a bikini wearer... nope, nada.  However, in order to see the "transformation," I needed to be as close to naked as possible.  I do not have a perfect body and proudly have scars from carrying and bearing a child.  I have not reached my goal, but am pleased with the results so far.  I am re-assessing and deciding on what the goals/ ourline of my second challenge will be, as I will continue and my 2nd BFL challenge starts tomorrow :)

Drum roll please...

It's hard to believe how much I have changed and learned.  How much self control I have had, and how much self confidence I have gained.  Having self discipline is one of the keys to true happiness, and I feel BFL completely captures that.  In the word of wisdom it talks about moderation in all things.  Can I just say how far I was from moderation in all things?  I am grateful to have adapted that as my new mantra for life.  I am looking forward to what the next 12 weeks has to bring!
